Raafat Al-Rifai
Journalist and Revolutionary Media Activist
Raafat Al-Rifai is one of the journalists and media activists who emerged during the Syrian Revolution, with his work particularly associated with covering events in Aleppo and its surrounding areas. He worked in journalism and media and became one of the voices reporting developments on the ground and the events taking place across the city to media outlets.
Al-Rifai became known as an Al Jazeera correspondent in Aleppo, where he followed developments on the ground and covered major events in the city throughout the years of the revolution. He was also detained by Syrian regime forces because of his journalistic activities, as journalists and media activists faced significant pressure during that period.
“Following his release, he continued his work in the media field and contributed to training a number of revolutionary media personnel, sharing his experience with activists and journalists who worked to cover events in Syria from the ground.”
Raafat Al-Rifai’s experience remains part of the broader history of Syrian media that emerged during the revolution, as journalists and media activists played an important role in reporting and documenting events and bringing the voices of areas experiencing rapidly developing events to audiences inside and outside Syria.
